The Robert Gillespie Academic Skills Centre (RGASC) invites applications for a Math Teaching Assistant position starting December 14, 2020 and ending April 30, 2021. The position will consist of 35 hours and will require availability during the month of December and up to and include the end of April. Given the restrictions on in-person activities at the University of Toronto Mississauga campus to limit the spread of the coronavirus, the position will be focused entirely on synchronous informal online mathematics workshops for differential and integral calculus before the fall term final exams. All online workshops (e.g. faculty, students, or instruction with students) will be hosted through video conferencing (e.g., Zoom, Teams, or Bb Collaborate), and teaching materials will be provided. The successful candidate will work from home and will be required to use their own computer with their own internet access to download and upload documents, as well as have audio and videoconferencing for synchronous workshops and any other kind of academic support. The Math Teaching Assistant is expected to use videoconferencing for synchronous workshops. The four primary focuses will be to provide informal online mathematics workshops for students who are taking first-year differential and integral calculus final exam in the December exam period; to review and practice foundational mathematics pertaining to calculus; to share studying and assessment preparation tips for a mathematics course; and to better support, as a mentor and a current UTM mathematics student, first-year students with their calculus final exam.Qualifications
