Genetics – Head TA

Duties

Duties for the position will include: creating marking rubrics for lab assignments, creating a schedule for flex time work for TAs, efficiently using the Learning management engine. Incumbent will assess the individual abilities of other TAs for their fly handling and transmission genetics knowledge and provide appropriate training. The incumbent will also check to ensure that TAs know how to correctly generate the expected data that students will generate. Specific duties and time allocations will be defined in the ‘Description of Duties and Allocation of Hours’ form.

Qualifications

Includes: ability, academic qualifications, suitability for the position and appropriate background in the subject/specialty. The successful candidate will have a strong training in transmission genetics being able to predict data from known map distances and gene type and vice versa and have experience using Drosophila in breeding experiments. The incumbent must be able to lead TA training sessions, and create weekly tips for TAs and assignment sheets for students, and be available at UTSC on Mondays, and one other day per week, and have completed a BSc degree and have one year of an advanced degree completed.
